Travel + Leisure

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder. What some find beautiful, well...others may have a different opinion. Travel + Leisure just released their "most beautiful" site in each state list, and here in Texas they chose a place in West Texas known as the "Top of Texas."

Mountains in Texas?

Most "out-of-staters" think the lone star state is just a flat, hot desert, but there are mountains in Texas. They're not like the Rocky Mountains, but they do have a beauty all their own. These West Texas mountains are truly worth the trip and offer something for everyone looking for an outdoor adventure.

The Guadalupe Mountains

If you want a beautiful mountain to explore, look no further than the Guadalupe Mountains in West Texas. Known as the "exposed tips" of the Captain Reef, and located in the Chihuahuan Desert, the Guadalupe Mountains are home to the highest summit in Texas - Guadalupe Peak at 8,751 ft and El Capitan at 8,064 ft, both located within Guadalupe Mountains National Park.

Whether you want a scenic drive or to spend some time hiking, backpacking or birding, the Guadalupe Mountains have plenty to offer.

As for beauty, it's hard to argue against Travel + Leisure's pick.
