It's a testament to the human spirit that from a horrific tragedy could come an event that brings people together and raises money to help children in dire circumstances.

Friends and family of Jenna Scott and Michael Swearingin organized a 5k run to benefit Priceless Beginnings - a non-profit started in Jenna and Michael's honor to raise money to provide camp scholarships to children of domestic abuse victims.

Our partners at News 10 report that the inaugural event was held Saturday at Pepper Creek Trail in Temple, where Jenna and Michael often shared walks and runs with friends including organizer Annie Hammons.

132 people showed up despite the weather to honor Jenna and Michael. In fact, the rains didn't impact the event at all, which Michael's mother, Debbie, credits to her son and Jenna watching from Heaven.

Both remain in the Bell County Jail awaiting trial. Marks is charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence, among other charges. Maxwell is also charged with capital murder and tampering with evidence.
