Robinson Teen Saves Mother from Attempted Rape
A local teen's heroism is making national headlines after he saved his mother from an attempted rapist and held the man down until police came to apprehend him.
As reported by our news partner, KWTX, Robinson police responded to a call about a possible burglary in the 100 block of North McLendon shortly after 11:30 PM Thursday, October 18. When they arrived, two teens outside of the home told them am an had broken in and attacked their mother. The two said their 15-year-old brother was holding the suspect inside.
Police entered the home and found 37-year-old John Wayne Morris lying atop the teen with the young man's arms around his neck. Police took Morris into custody, and jail records indicate he remained in the McLennan County Jail on October 23 in lieu of $50,000 bond. He's been charged with burglary of a habitation with intent to commit a sexual offense.
The boy's mother told police she woke to find Morris straddling her and holding her shoulders down. Morris reportedly told her he had someone watching her children, and that they would be harmed if she fought back. When the woman's son realized something was wrong, he grappled with Morris and held him while others called for help.
Police believe Morris entered the home through an unlocked door. We hate to think what may have happened if the woman's son hadn't come to her defense.
Word of the teen's heroism has been spreading, with reports of his bravery showing up in Newsweek, the New York Post, and Breitbart News.
