R. Kelly Seeks Release Citing COVID-19 Fears
Disgraced R&B star R. Kelly is trying to use the COVID-19 pandemic to get himself of jail.
According to the Associated Press, Kelly's attorneys asked a federal judge to free him from a federal jail in Chicago as he awaits trial on child pornography and other charges.
In a court filing on Thursday (March 26) Kelly's lawyers argue that scant precautions to stem the spread of the coronavirus behind bars has put Kelly’s life at risk.
Sanitizer and even soap is hard to come by in the Metropolitan Correctional Center, with most of its 700 inmates held in small, two-man cells that make the kind of social distancing called for to thwart the transmission of COVID-19 impossible, the filing in U.S. District Court in Chicago says. -AP News
Kelly is currently facing dozens state and federal counts across several states from sexual assault to heading a racketeering scheme aimed at supplying him with girls. The judge has yet to rule on Kelly's case but you can read the papers filed by Kelly's attorneys for yourself by clicking here.
