The price of power in Texas is something that many around the state worry about constantly. As the heat gets worse here in the Lone Star State, there's an uptick in AC's clicking on more often. But, if this happens in Texas, people's wallets will hurt more when paying for power.

Will Paying For Power Become More Expensive Soon In Texas?

As revealed by KETK, Oncor has made a formal request of re-examination of the state's power needs. This would help Oncor better determine the overall need of power in the state. But, this would result in prices climbing by several dollars.

Per Debbie Dennis, Oncor's Senior Vice President, Chief Customer Officer and Chief HR Officer:

"We are requesting this rate review as we’re executing on our approximately $36 billion five-year capital plan as we seek to minimize the impacts of increased storms on our customers...Oncor’s construction and maintenance activities currently rely on about 5,500 employees and nearly 9,000 contractors who together help serve our customers.”

Understandably, some in the state won't be happy with the potential price hike. But Oncor also understands the weight of the request.

What Else Is Oncor Saying About The Potential Rise In Texas Power Prices?

Dennis also said the following in regards to those possibly stressed about a higher power price:

"We recognize the potential impacts a rate increase will have on our customers and we do our best to balance these impacts with the company’s ability to continue to meet the needs of our growing state.”

At the time of writing, it has been stated the review will take approximately six to nine months. Power rates may also increase to offset costs caused by the review.

As this a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
