The Killeen Daily Herald recently reported that Pollo Campero, a very popular international fast-food chain that originated in Guatemala, has permanently closed its location in Killeen, where it had replaced TGI Fridays. At first, when I drove past the area, I noticed there weren’t many cars at the restaurant. However, that didn’t necessarily mean they weren’t getting enough business; I assumed I might have just been passing by at the wrong times.

What Was Pollo Campero Known For?

Known for its Latin cuisine, including empanadas, plantains, and yucca fries, as well as its signature fried and grilled chicken and flavorful sides like beans, it’s sad to see the restaurant go. At the end of the day, this closure represents a lost opportunity for both the business and the local community. Still, it’s important to look at this from another perspective: it opens the door to something new coming into the city.

What Can Replace Pollo Campero In Killeen?

I’ve argued for years that somewhere between Copperas Cove and Temple, Texas, there should be a Cava restaurant. Perhaps this could be an opportunity for that idea to become a reality. Alternatively, another Latin cuisine chain might take over the space that is now vacant. Either way, the popular chicken establishment will certainly be missed in the community.
