Police Arrest Ex-Boyfriend Of Victim In Texas College Campus Shooting
On Monday, we shared the story of a tragic on-campus dorm shooting at Texas A&M Commerce where 2 sisters were shot and killed while a 2-year old child was also shot and injured. Police have now arrested the alleged ex-boyfriend of one of the victims.
According to CBSDFW.com, police identified and arrested 21-year old Jacques Dshawn Smith who is believed to be the ex-boyfriend of Abbaney Matts, 20, who died in the shooting along with her sister, Deja Matts, 19.
Deja was a freshman at the university who was pursuing a bachelor’s degree in public health while her sister was not enrolled at the school. Abbaney is the mother of the 2 year old who was wounded in the shooting who has since been released from the hospital and in the care of family members.
Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Smith through the use of surveillance and witness tips. Smith is not a student of Texas A&M Commerce. According to reports, Smith was arrested last week for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after an incident in which he threw a TV at Deja. But was released on a $15,000 bond despite having violated his probation.
