Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. stated that this extension of a push would come from the federal government and health and human services. Robert added that the restrictions on processed foods and food additives are poisoning Americans. Lawmakers are calling this bill Make Texas Healthy Again, a play on the Make America Great Again campaign slogan from President Trump. Senate Bill 25 focuses on chronic illnesses and aims to increase healthier food options in several ways. Senator Lois  Kolkhorst said that providing this information to people will help them make healthier decisions for themselves and their families.

I agree with this initiative. While I understand that some families rely on SNAP benefits, there are instances where these benefits are misused. The program should allow households to access healthier options for themselves and their families. Senator May Middleton stated that, at the end of the day, this is about fulfilling the program’s original purpose: improving nutrition and health outcomes. Texans need to understand that if this law passes out of committee, it will go directly to full Senate consideration.
