Halloween candy is one of my favorite kinds of sweet stuff. I have fond childhood memories of sorting through my goodies from trick-or-treating, and being so excited when the biggest pile was made up of chocolate bars.

Of course, as an adult, the best part of the holiday is leftover candy! I was a little surprised to find out what the most popular Halloween treat in Texas was this year.

Most Popular Halloween Candy in America

Candy made especially for this time of year is big business. The National Retail Federation said it expects Halloween candy spending to hit $3.1 billion, up from $3 billion last year. On average, each person will spend around $28 on goodies this year to hand out or to keep.

Bulk candy distributor candystore.com took the last 15 years of candy sales and ranked the three most popular candy brands in every state.

According to candystore.com, the most popular Halloween candy in America for 2022 was Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Here's the rest of the list:

  • #2 - Skittles
  • #3 - M&M's
  • #4 - Starburst
  • #5 - Hot Tamales

Rounding out the top ten nationwide: Sour Patch Kids, Snickers, Tootsie Pops, and candy corn.

Most Popular Halloween Candy in Texas

According to candystore.com, 95% of people celebrating Halloween buy candy, and Starburst tops the list in Texas with over 900,000 pounds purchased. Chocolate is on the list, but came in second, with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups ranked at number two, and Sour Patch Kids coming in third.
