Five people are dead and a gunman is hospitalized after a shooting in McGregor, Texas.

The Facts Known At This Time

According to sources who spoke with our news partners at KWTX, gunfire was initially reported around 8:00 AM Thursday, September 29, 2022 in the the 900 block of Monroe.

Police say their preliminary investigation confirms 5 people, whose identities were not immediately released, were fatally wounded. A man (whose identity was also not released) is said to have shot his wife and her two children. Two other women were reportedly killed as well - one of whom was found in the street, and another who was found in a nearby home.

Police say the the shooter was himself injured by gunfire from a police officer, and has been hospitalized.

Reports of the shooting came from residents around the area, with one construction worker reporting seeing a wounded person on the ground, and an unidentified man shooting at another person. Police have yet to confirm this information at the time of writing.

Responses To The Shooting

McGregor Police held a press conference with updates regarding the shooting at 12:15 PM:

McGregor ISD also chose to notify parents of children at schools letting them know that their children were not harmed, and the school district locked down schools for a short period as a precaution.

The Superintendent of McGregor ISD, James Lenamon, also stated in a release to parents:

"This is a very fluid situation. Details are coming in rapidly and the gravity of the situation, and the required response, will change many times before the day is out. We will update you throughout the day as appropriate." Rest assured, that the mental and physical well-being of every student and staff member is our top priority. We will be here today, and in the days to come, to meet the needs our your children.”
