Killeen Texas Armed Services YMCA Opens Five Star Food Market
Armed
As we begin to approach the season of thanks and giving, one organization in Killeen, Texas is putting food on the table and bringing the village people back into the (sing it with me) A-S-Y-M-C-A . The Harker Heights Wellness Center opened their Five Star Food Market today and it is one of a kind. Scroll down so I can give you the deets.
The Doors Of The Market Are Open
In these trying and for many, uncertain times we are living in, it is not the first time nor will it be the last time you may find yourself in a position where you need the help of others. If you are an active-duty servicemember or a veteran, and could use some assistance with groceries, the Wellness Center has created a space and opportunity for you to shop your own groceries located on the second floor of the wellness center.
Moving On Up
So, it's a walk-in-and-shop type of food pantry. It's specifically designed to serve and benefit, active-duty and veteran service members and their families. Before this new change took place, groceries were being pre-bagged and given out once per month. With this new expansion fully operational, having a designated shopping area now in place, families can choose the groceries they want. Eligible recipients are allowed up to 25 pounds of groceries each week on Thursdays for free. You can shop for your needs and your wants. Essentials and perishables are also included too, at no charge.
The Fine Print
As of now, the Five-Star Food Market will be open once a week, Thursdays from 7 AM to 6 PM. The amount of groceries you can shop for will be based on family size. The new implementation of the Five Star Food Market will also operate on a first come, first served basis. There is no registration required to shop. The switch from pre-packing and distributing groceries, to being able to shop your own groceries will require some patience and getting used to, so please be kind.
ASYSA says "they strongly advise allowing yourselves time to shop, as well as fill out our intake form which takes about 5-7 minutes, and is required in order to shop for groceries at Five Star Market."
A valid government issued ID with active-duty or veteran distinction will be required upon entering the market. Dependents may bring USMILID to shop.
