Killeen ISD reported earlier this week that it was taking precautions to sanitize classrooms and campuses while students are on spring break amid fears of the coronavirus pandemic. The district announced today that they are planning to have students return to class on Monday.

In a post to the KISD Facebook page at 1:00 PM today (March 13), the district says that it is in continuous communication with officials regarding COVID-19 and will be enacting response plan to the pandemic.

As this is a fluid situation, Killeen ISD will make informed decisions based on guidance and recommendations from the CDC School Decision Tree, Bell County Health Department and Fort Hood Officials. - KISD statement

KISD went on to say that it is aware of the first presumptive positive case of COVID-19 in Bell County and will alert families through a Blackboard message, the district website, local media, and district social media if changes are to occur.

Meanwhile, according to KCEN, the Executive Board of the Killeen Educators Association called upon the Killeen Independent School District to extend its spring break, something other districts in the state and across the country have already done. in statement to the KISD.

“While we appreciate the efforts already undertaken by the district to prevent the spread of the virus, the phase two measures issued by the Bell County Health Department recommend a six-foot interval between individuals, something impossible to maintain in a school environment,”

We are still awaiting word from Temple, Belton and Copperas Cove ISD's for details on what they plan to do. As of the time of this article, Temple ISD is moving forward with classes resuming on Monday while Belton ISD is beginning its Spring Break for students on Monday are monitoring the situation as well.

Do you think KISD is making the right call to have school on Monday or should spring break be extended?
