Killeen Homeowners Threatened With $2,000 Fine A Day by City for Delayed Repairs
A disabled couple living in the city of Killeen is finding themselves in a tough situation, according to KWTX. Recently, the Contreras family had an unwanted guest crash a stolen vehicle into their home during a police chase in the 1500 block of S. WS Yung Drive. The Contreras family did not know the individual who drove the car into their home, but they were later sent a letter by the city stating that they would face a $2,000-a-day fine if the damages weren’t fixed by next month.

To make matters worse, the homeowners say there is a chance the house itself may have to be demolished. The fact that the city sent this letter to the couple adds to the stress, and the couple feels they should not be held responsible for the damages.
Killeen Resident Faces $2K Per Day Fine for Juvenile Property Destruction
David and Robin Contreras, both disabled veterans, live paycheck to paycheck and cannot even begin to figure out how or who could help them with the damages or the fines. The Red Cross has assisted them with temporary housing at the Marriott Residence in Killeen, but no other assistance has been offered since then. The couple stated, "It's ridiculous. Who are these people? This is how you treat the disabled veterans of the city. I don’t understand. They know I don’t live there. It’s not fair at all! How is that fair?"
They expressed that, while they would understand if six months had passed, having only one week to deal with this has deeply upset them.
KWTX contacted the city, which is working on a response. If anyone would like to help the couple, please feel free to click this link here.
