During this pandemic, a lot of us have suffered depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Now the world is opening back up, and getting back out into the world can help with those issues.

Of course, there's another way to boost your spirits, and that's by adopting a new furry friend to share a loving home with. That's where Killeen Animal Services comes in with their free adoption event this weekend.

If you get a chance this weekend and you've been wanting to adopt a loving dog or cat to be your new best friend, stop by Killeen Animal Services at 3118 Commerce Drive.  Saturday from 9 AM to 4 PM and Sunday 11 AM to 4 PM, they'll be waiving adoption fees for neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped pets.

You can call them at 254-526-4455 or visit killeentx.gov if you have any questions about the animals or how you can help.

Anybody who knows me knows that I am an avid lover of our furry friends. I’m an absolute dog lover and always have been. Even as a child, I would rescue animals. I was alone a lot as kid, so it was nice to have the company and to give a pet a loving home.

I have noticed that there are so many benefits that come with having a companion like a dog. Not only are our pets extremely loyal and will  never leave your side, but if your furry friend is anything like my rat terrier Rocket, your pup will be extremely protective over you and your family. They'll always have your back!

Of course, you'll have to have their back too. When you adopt a dog or cat, you're taking responsibility for a living, feeling creature who'll depend on your love and care. Make sure you're in a good position to be taking care of an animal and showering it with attention (and treats), or consider waiting to adopt until you can really devote the time to a loving animal.

Again, this weekend's event will see adoption fees waived, so if you can give a pet in need a safe, loving home, definitely plant to make it out there! Your new best friend is waiting for you.
