Killeen Comes Together To Help Single Mom Who Lost Everything In Fire
It's already a known fact that when someone in the Central Texas community needs support, we put our common disagreements aside and roll up our sleeves to help out!
Such was the case with Tanisha Hill, a single mother who lost everything in a house fire on December 1st. Her home in the 1400 block of Gray Drive burned down and her daughter and 4 dogs have been living at the La Quinta Inn in Killeen for the past few weeks with help from the American Red Cross.
According to KWTX News 10's Brandon Hamilton, when word got out that the ARC's help was about to run out, citizens all across the area pitched in to extend their stay.
Then one Central Texas restaurant owner went above and beyond to help, and provided them with a permanent home.
Albert Flakes, the manager at Father And Son's Soul Food in Killeen, opened up one of his rental units to Hill and her family and gave her the keys to her new home on Saturday. Mr. Flakes is even giving Tanisha's daughter a job at the restaurant to help out.
Flakes says he lost everything in a fire last year. He must have had that experience in mind when he decided to commit to this wonderful act of kindness.
In this word full of bad news seemingly around the clock, it's a blessing to share a great story in our community of folks helping each other when they need it most.
We salute the good folks over at Father & Son's Soul Food!
