One of the most heartfelt events in Killeen, the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive, held its eighth annual event on August 13. However, this year’s event was unlike any other. Every year, people come out to support the Battle of the Badges Blood Drive because they understand that their donation could potentially help save a life. This year, however, was especially successful.

Killeen First Responders Rally Local Donors to Drive Surge in Blood Donations

According to the City of Killeen, the Killeen Civic and Conference Center partnered with Carter BloodCare to collect 197 units of blood from 201 donors this year. Those donations could help save more than 400 lives.

Killeen Fire vs. Police: Blood Drive Turnout Surges as Friendly Rivalry Grows

It was truly a spectacular year, and the event continues to grow bigger each year. People come out to see the friendly competition between the Killeen Police Department (KPD) and Killeen Fire Department (KFD), which inspires residents to not only donate blood but also vote for their favorite department. For the fourth time, the police department earned the most votes this year, with the final tally being 107 to 94.
