John Legend Donates $5,000 to Help Pay Massive School-Meal Debt for Seattle Students
The man's name is Jeff Lew, and he started the money raising efforts almost three weeks ago to help pay a $21,000 bill. That amount was owed by various students throughout the city's 99 schools.
"I thought it couldn't be him," said Lew, who actually alerted Legend of the campaign before he started it.
He also thanked the singer and got a direct response afterwards. "My pleasure," wrote Legend. "We should have free lunch for all of our public students."
Meanwhile, the 38-year-old singer and pianist remains hard at work, recently dropping the video to his powerful cut "Surefire" and also teaming with Gallant for a stirring rendition of his song "Overload."
Legend has also been extremely vocal about local New York City politics and domestic issues as well. Earlier this month, he commented on the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, and he also spoke about the potential closing of Rikers Island in New York City.
