The 5 Year Push to Make Dr Pepper the Official Soft Drink of Texas
Dr Pepper is a Texas born drink and a favorite throughout the South and across the country. Its 23 flavors are always a mouth pleaser. Being that the drink was born in Texas, it would be a no brainer to name it an official something of Texas, right? That is not the case. Since 2019, there has been a push to make Dr Pepper the Official Soft Drink of Texas.
Signing the Petition
You can find a petition on the website change.org that is hoping to get enough signatures to make Dr Pepper the Official Soft Drink of Texas. It's easy to sign the petition as all you have to do is go to change.org, enter your first and last name and your email then sign the petition. The petition has been up since January of 2019 but has still not gained enough signatures to send the petition to the our representatives in Austin to vote on the matter.
In case you didn't know the details of how Dr Pepper was started, it was created in Waco in 1885, a full year before Coca Cola. It is the oldest soda drink in the country. Brooklyn-born pharmacist Charles Alderton came up with the formula in Morrison's Old Corner Drug Store in Waco. Alderton gave the drink to store owner Wade Morrison to test on his customers. Customers loved it and would call it a "Waco" when ordering it. Store owner Morrison later gave it the name Dr Pepper.
The Secret 23 Flavors in Dr Pepper
Rumors say that the secret formula is divided into two parts and stored at two different banks in the Dallas area. There is a rumor that prune juice is one of the 23 flavors. Another rumor is that the formula was found in a journal at an antique store in the Texas panhandle. But neither of those rumors has been proven.
And no, there is no "." at the end of Dr in Dr Pepper. At one time there was, but it was dropped in the 1950s because of a font change in the logo that made the period hard to read.
Dr Pepper is my favorite soda and is probably yours as well. It should be named the Official Soft Drink of Texas so sign the petition and share with your friends so they can sign it, too.
