The state of Texas is well known for the heat it experiences during the summer. Temps reach the triple digit mark many times during a Texas summer, and some might not be prepared for it, leading to possible heat stroke.
What Is Heat Stroke And How It Is Caused?
According to the Mayo Clinic, Heat stroke happens when an individual's body temperature reaches over 104 degrees. When that occurs, these things can happen to a person:
- Change in mental state or behavior
- Change in sweating pattern
- Flushed skin
- Headache
- High body temperature
- Nausea and vomiting
- Racing heart rate
- Rapid breathing

With any of these things possibly happening, taking care of a person who is suffering from heat stroke is vitally important. So what can one do to make sure someone is ok?
How Can One In Texas Care For One With Heat Stroke?
To find out the answer, KXAN interviewed Dr. Nida Zakiullah from Baylor Scott & White Family Medicine. In their discussions, Dr. Zakiullah revealed there are multiple ways to assist.
Zakiullah was quoted as saying the following:
"The first thing you should do is move the person to an environment with cooler temperatures. You can splash cold water. You can also remove any extra clothing. Make sure they drink water with electrolytes."
