An 18-year-old Killeen ISD student remained behind bars Wednesday after authorities say he was caught with a weapon at school.

STUDENT ARRESTED AT ELLISON HIGH SCHOOL

Our news partners at KWTX-TV report that the incident happened at Ellison High School on Tuesday, March 1. A KISD staffer reportedly noticed Angel Yamil Bachiller Villarin with a black bag in a classroom and suspected there might be contraband inside. Villarin was taken to an office where the bag could be searched, and a weapon was found inside.

Officials did not say what the weapon was.

SUSPECT FACES FELONY CHARGES

Bell County Jail records showed Villarin was booked at 6:16 PM Tuesday and charged with two unspecified third-degree felonies. No bond was listed Wednesday evening.

Principal David Dominguez issued a recorded message to Ellison parents assuring them that the school and KISD takes student safety seriously, and that they will "deal aggressively" with any reports of potential threads to students or staff.

THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HARMED

I’m not exactly sure why this young man decided to bring that weapon to school, but I think it’s very important that we have important conversations with our children to avoid things of this nature. Let your child know they can come to you if they're being bullied, or if they suspect there's a dangerous situation brewing at their school. Commutation is key, and could save lives.

Let's all be grateful that the KISD staffer was paying attention and trusted their gut. Otherwise, who know what may have happened.
