Action Needed: Black Mold Concerns at Harker Heights High School
We may be nearing the last day of school for some districts, but that doesn’t mean the work is done. According to KWTX, students at Harker Heights High School have been raising concerns about conditions in one of the restrooms—concerns that are now leaving parents not only frustrated, but demanding immediate repairs. Parents and students within Killeen ISD are especially alarmed by the possibility that black mold may be present in one of the girls' bathrooms. This concern gained traction after a parent received a photo taken by their child and shared on social media. While students are not permitted to use their phones during school hours, the photo was taken, though the student responsible has remained anonymous.

Harker Heights High School: Latest Updates on Possible Mold Find
Interestingly, today marks the last day of school for Harker Heights High School. At first glance, that might raise the question: if students are leaving for the summer, what’s the urgency? The answer is simple—if this is indeed black mold, it won’t stop growing over the break. It will continue to spread, potentially creating an even greater hazard by the time students return in the fall. This situation has also left parents wondering how long the issue has existed. As one parent pointed out, “Stuff like that doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to get that bad. I don’t know if it’s black mold or not—I just reacted as a concerned mother.”
