According to KWTX, students at Harker Heights High School have been raising concerns about conditions in one of the restrooms—concerns that are now leaving parents not only frustrated, but demanding immediate repairs. Parents and students within Killeen ISD are especially alarmed by the possibility that black mold may be present in one of the girls' bathrooms. This concern gained traction after a parent received a photo taken by their child and shared on social media. While students are not permitted to use their phones during school hours, the photo was taken, though the student responsible has remained anonymous.

As one parent pointed out, “Stuff like that doesn’t happen overnight. It takes time to get that bad. I don’t know if it’s black mold or not—I just reacted as a concerned mother.”
