Austin, TX Police Officer Gunned Down In Rare Fire Fight
There is no greater tragedy in law enforcement than when an officer is lost in the line of duty for voluntarily putting their self in harm's way to protect others. Early Saturday morning, that is exactly how officer Jorge Pastore was taken from the Austin, Texas Police Department while responding to a call of multiple people being stabbed within a South Austin home.
The shoot out with police began shortly before 3 AM on Saturday morning, and as those initial officers backed away from the residence without returning gunfire, the encounter escalated to a SWAT team responding to the scene just after 4 AM.
How did Austin, Texas police officer Jorge Pastore die?
After responding as part of the SWAT team, Pastore was involved in a gunfight with the suspect in an attempt to rescue two victims that were reported to be inside. During the exchange of gunfire, a call went over the radio saying officers had been shot.
Officer Pastore and another member of the SWAT team were both wounded with Pastore later being declared dead. The other officer was last listed in stable condition after surgery.
