The event, referred to as a “special gate event,” began at 10 a.m. Featured speakers and attendees included AUS CEO Ghizlane Badawi; Southwest Senior Vice President of Air Operations, Captain Steve Christl; Council Member Vanessa Fuentes; and Mayor Kirk Watson.

This development is being described as a significant investment in Central Texas. The airport noted that Southwest is now the largest carrier at AUS, and more than 2,000 pilot and flight attendant positions are expected.
