An Open Letter to In-N-Out – Sorry, But You’ll Never Be Tops in Texas
I’m a proud local of Killeen, Texas, and I’m so grateful to be able to call the Lone Star State Home. When you're a Texas lifer, you have so much to take pride in, even if it's something as simple as the best burger joint in your state.
Now that Texas is seeing so much growth, out-of-staters are bringing some of their favorites with them. While the variety is nice, there are just some traditions you don't mess with.
CRUSIN' FOR A BRUSIN'
What I don’t appreciate is being disrespected by anybody, especially people who think they can do it better than Texas. You know the saying: Don’t Mess with Texas!
A lot of the food chains have set up shop in Texas and tried to compete with our favorites, but In-N-Out Burger in particular has truly danced with the devil. Now don’t get me wrong - I actually love California. It's nice to travel there, I enjoy Coachella, and you can even get me to eat one of those amazing avocados from the Golden State.
But when it comes to the foods that are iconic in Texas, that’s where I draw the line. Nobody and I mean nobody messes with my Whataburger!
YOU WANNA DANCE WITH THE BIG DOGS?
I'm disturbed by the number of people around me who speak as if this is even a competition. When it comes to flavor and personality, In-N-Out's got nothing on that beautiful orange-and-white W.
Like, honestly Texas, have you never had a Whataburger patty melt? Biting into it is like winning a Nobel Peace Prize for having your firstborn child. It's magical.
DON'T MESS WITH TEXAS!
I don’t have a personal problem with In-N-Out. I'll admit your burger is somewhat decent on a good day. What I will not tolerate is anyone thinking they can dethrone the king of Texas burgers.
As the old saying goes, you don't have to go home, but you got to get out of here if you think you're about to outdo the W.
