Texas Judge, Know For His Support Of Trump ,Has Ruled Against Black Teenager Who Sued After Receiving Punishment For Hairstyle.
18-year-old Daryl George is a Texas student who felt like he was wrongfully mistreated according to Face-to-face Africa. The student was in a legal battle with Barbers Hill School District with other defendants after being punished for declining to change his hairstyle.
IS IT RACIST OR IS IT FAIR?
A Federal judge who is well known for being a Trump supporter ruled against the claim of Daryl George for accusing officials at school of racial and gendered discrimination after being punished for the hairstyle. As a woman of color, I know how difficult diversity with minority hairstyles can be. Some of our hair does grow long in dread forms. Some of our hair should be braided to stay maintained, but if the student's hairstyle wasn’t offensive, causing harm, or was a distraction for him or his classmates why would a child’s hair be more concerned about hairstyles than continuing the growth of these young peoples education?
WHAT IS NEXT FOR DARYL GEORGE?
The family sent a formal complaint to Texas Education and initiated a federal civil rights lawsuit against Greg Abbott, Attorney General, Ken Paxton, and the school district. The family is saying that allegedly this was a failure on the part of the authorities to enforce the Crown Act which is a law that makes discrimination linked to race by hairstyle illegal. I’m a big believer that there are bigger things we need to worry about here in Texas, especially if it’s not causing harm, but what happened to express yourself?
