News 4 San Antonio is reporting one Texas Congressman wants to lower the voting age across the state from 18-years-old to 16-years-old. Do you think this is a good idea? Lets put it to a vote in the official poll below.

Congressman Vicente Gonzalez said he is on board with Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley's idea of an amendment that changes the voting age in federal elections from 18 to 16.

I noticed right away that the change in voting age is just for Federal Elections. Why not all elections state and federal? Does this mean some Congressman want a 16-year-old to be able to vote for President but not necessarily be able to vote anyone up or down in a state election? Is this as dumb as it sounds? It's pretty obvious what the attempt is here. My own opinion is that 18 is just fine and should remain the voting age for Texans who want to vote in Federal or State elections. After all, this is the same generation that thought it was fun to eat laundry detergent on the internet. I'm more inclined to think that this has lots more to do with more "variables" that affect the outcome of the Presidential election and very little to do with "elevating the voices of our teenagers".

Congressman Gonzalez has spoken up about the amendment saying, "There is a growing sense of vigilance and civic engagement among our nation’s youth. From McAllen, Texas to Washington, D.C., our nation’s young people are holding the federal government to the highest standards and demanding that public servants at every level of government honor the promises they made to uphold the Constitution and serve their fellow Americans. If these young adults are allowed to enter the workforce and support our nation’s economy as taxpayers, then I believe it is my duty as a Member of Congress to not only elevate their voice but to give them the most fundamental tool in our democracy – the right to vote and that is why I supported this measure in the House.”
