Texas Child Ends Life After ICE Deportation Fears Spread Among Classmates
This story raises many questions. Why wasn’t Jocelynn comfortable enough to report the bullying to a teacher, and if she did, why weren’t any actions taken? How is it possible that sixth-grade children had such knowledge of deportation, and why were they not taught by their parents about kindness and respect?
Girl in Texas Commits Suicide After ICE Deportation Threats at School
Marbella Carranza, Jocelynn's mother, shared that her daughter attempted suicide inside their home in Gainesville, Texas. Despite being rushed to critical care, Jocelynn tragically passed away on February 8. The school counselor had been working with Jocelynn, as Gainesville Intermediate School was aware of the bullying and harassment she was facing, including threats related to her deportation.
Marbella recalled, “My daughter was always alive for me, and I will always love her.” This heartbreaking tragedy serves as a powerful reminder of the profound impact our words and actions can have on others. We must all take responsibility for how we treat one another, as it can affect people in ways we may never fully understand.
