TEXANS BEWARE OF THE EBOLA-TYPE DISEASE

According to CNN after an Iowa resident died from the dangerous disease, the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services had to announce the death of the individual who had unfortunately caught the last of fever due to a trip to West Africa on Friday, Monday, October, 28th. Once the test returned positive for Lassa fever, the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention still needed to work to determine the individual's diagnosis. Marburg virus is the name of this dangerous Ebola-type viral virus that causes internal bleeding and will damage multiple organ systems.

Dr. Robert Cruz, who is an Iowa State Medical Director says there is a very low risk of transmission for Lassa fever, but there is an estimated range of 100,000 to 300,000 people are affected by the Lassa fever in West Africa annually, and it is considered an epidemic according to the center for infectious disease and policy. There have been eight cases of the disease, all of which were travel-related, reported here in the United States. Fatigue, cough, sore throat, and headache are the symptoms of the virus, and 20% of patients experience, more severe symptoms, including bleeding of the mouth, eyes nose, seizures, diarrhea, confusion, chest, neck, breathing, and stomach pains.
