Just because summer is considered "over" with everyone heading back to school doesn't mean you can't still have a little fun and take a splash in the pool! Recently, Reach of Central Texas posted on social media that the City of Temple will be offering swim lessons specifically for individuals with special needs. This is an awesome opportunity for our little ones to get out, splash around, and learn how to swim. And don’t worry—adults haven’t been left out either! These lessons are open to participants ages 6 and up. I’m more than happy to come along as well!

Classes for ages 6 to 12 will be held at 10:00 AM and 11:00 AM on Saturdays throughout the month of September at Sammons Indoor Pool. The cost is $50 per student, with a class size limited to six students. If you’re interested in participating or signing someone up, you can register online through the City of Temple Parks and Recreation website under the Aquatics section—or call Sammons Indoor Pool directly at 254-298-5930.

Creating a Safe Haven: Temple's Adaptive Swim Classes

The City recommends calling rather than registering online. Classes will be taught by American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Keith Maxwell, who has over 10 years of experience teaching swim lessons to individuals with special needs—so he’s the right person for the job! Of course, there will be lifeguards on hand to assist and supervise students. All participants must remain in the designated swim lesson area within the pool. In addition to the September sessions, more special needs swim classes will be offered on Saturdays in October and again in March.
