Free Admission for Military Families at Temple Railroad Museum

I only know a little bit about Temple, Texas because I am now employed out here, but the more I venture off and learn about the city the more I really begin to love it and it grows on me. That includes the charming Railroad and Heritage Museum downtown, which has big news for our local military families.

SO MUCH TO LEARN ABOUT TEMPLE, TEXAS

Temple is full of rich history and fascinating stories, many of which center around its founding as a railroad town. There's so much to learn about Temple's roots and how far its come.

So when I found out that the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum was now offering free admissions through Labor Day (Monday, September 5) for active-duty military and their families, I was super excited. I think you ought to be as well, and get into why below.

First, some details. The free admission for our soldiers is thanks to the Blue Star Museums initiative - a partnership between the National Endowment for the Arts, the Department of Defense, Blue Star Families. You'll find the Temple Railroad and Heritage Museum at 315 W Avenue B, and you can check out their website here.

LONESOME DOVE EXHIBIT NOW ON DISPLAY

Temple's history alone is fascinating, but if you've already been to the Railroad and Heritage Museum and think you've seen all there is to see, think again.

Now through June 25, the museum is hosting a beautiful exhibit on the impact and legacy of Texas novelist Larry McMurtry's amazing Lonesome Dove, with particular emphasis on the famous 1989 TV mini-series. The exhibit features rare photos and production art you won't see anywhere else.

The museum also offers free Family Day events with all sorts of great themed activities, so be sure to watch their website or Facebook page for info on those.

Their hours are Tuesday-Saturday 10AM to 4PM.
