The Temple Police Department is investigating one of its own after he was charged with driving while intoxicated in Belton Monday night.

Officer Joseph Clark, who's been with the Temple PD for 15 years, was off duty when he was stopped and charged in Belton. He's been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of TPD's investigation. Meanwhile, the Belton Police Department is conducting a criminal investigation.

"I am disappointed in the conduct that led to this arrest," Temple PD  Interim Chief Jim Tobin said. "The officer will be held accountable to the standards and policies of the Temple Police Department."

In a news release, Temple PD spokesman Chris Christoff reported that Officer Clark was off duty when he was stopped and was not representing the department or the City of Temple in any official capacity.
