Temple Police Investigating Officer Involved Shooting

Temple police have released the name of a man fatally injured in an officer involved shooting Monday night.

In a news release, police announced that 28-year-old Michael Dean was shot at approximately 8:15 PM near the <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/DXpP9xv6Jh4Gky7X8" target="_blank">intersection of Southeast HK Dodgen Loop and Little River Road</a>. Police did not reveal why the officer fired on the suspect.

The name of the officer involved was not released. TPD Media Relations Specialist Chris Christoff reports that the officer, has been with the department for nine years, has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the Rangers' investigation. The officer did not sustain any injuries.

"The Texas Rangers will be leading an investigation with the assistance of the Temple Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division and Bell County District Attorney's Office," Christoff wrote. "Temple Police are also conducting an internal investigation. Texas Rangers involvement is standard in any Police Action Shooting involving TPD officers."

Due to the nature of the investigation, Temple police will not be releasing further information for now. We will be reaching out to the Texas Rangers for any information they can release.

The Temple Police Department is investigating an officer involved shooting that took place Monday night.

Temple PD released a brief media release in which they reported that the shooting happened near Southeast HK Dodgen Loop and Little River Road. They did not specify a time, but the release was distributed shortly before 9:30 PM.

"Details are unknown at this time, a preliminary investigation is currently taking place," the media release read. "More information will be released as it becomes available."

As of Tuesday morning, we were awaiting comment on questions submitted to Temple PD in response to the release. This post will be updated with that information once it becomes available.
