The Temple Police Department announced Thursday that they have released a man wrongly arrested and charged in connection to a June 9 shooting that left two people injured, and that they have taken his twin brother into custody.

38-year-old Dederick Banks was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Bell County Jail records indicated he was still in custody late Thursday afternoon, and that his bonds totaled $400,000.

According to police, he's also a suspect in a shooting that occurred at Club Heavy in Temple early Sunday, June 7.

So, what happened here?

According to police, one of two people shot at a residence in the 500 block of South 16th Street on the evening of Tuesday, June 9 initially identified 38-year-old Frederick Banks as the shooter. Frederick was arrested and booked into the Bell County Jail later that night.

"After further investigation, officers determined that his twin brother, Dederick Banks, was actually the primary aggressor," police wrote in a statement release this afternoon. "Frederick Banks was promptly released from Bell County Jail."

These two incidents are among several shootings in Temple so far in June - some of which have not resulted in injuries to people (thank goodness), but have damaged homes.

I can't imagine sitting in jail knowing I'm there because of something my twin may have done. It's like a nightmare or a David Lynch movie. Hopefully police have the right person in custody this time.
