Teenage Girl Shot After Performing At Inauguration
As Congress holds hearings on gun control, a story from my hometown of Chicago reminds us all gun violence never takes a break.
15 year old Hadiya Pendleton was shot and killed yesterday a week after she traveled to Washington D.C.,where she performed with her high school band at ceremonies for President Barack Obama's inauguration.
Hadiya was a student at King College Prep and got out of school early because of exams, according to police Hadiya and a group of friends and classmates went to a nearby park and were under a canopy from a rain storm when a man pulled up,got out of a car and opened fire on the group.
Hadiya and another teenage boy were hit, the boy is said to be in serious condition at a local hospital, police believe that some of the kids in the group may have been in a gang and the shots were intended for them, sadly.
Hadiya was planning an exchange trip to Paris this summer through her school before her life was cut short adding her name to one of 42 homicides in the city in January.
