A special live Sesame Street performance designed for military families is coming to Fort Hood August 1st and 2nd.

The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families will perform “Katie is Moving To a New Base” at the Abrams Physical Fitness Center.

Show times are 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, and 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2.

These shows are open to military ID holders and their sponsored guests, and are not open to the general public.

Characters performing from Sesame Street are Elmo, Grover, Cookie Monster, Rosita, and Katie, a military character designed exclusively for military families.

Sesame Street and USO are addressing the challenges of military-to-civilian transition by debuting a brand new 30-minute character performance, while simultaneously running their ever popular show “Katie is Moving to a New Base.”

Thenewest installment, “Katie’s Family Transitions to Civilian Life,” will feature new songs, choreography and messages of support. Both shows will run as part of the 2016 Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families, which is scheduled to perform more than 160 shows at 50 military bases in the U.S. through October.

In their new show, military families are taken on a journey as Katie starts a new adventure outside of the military with the assurance that her family and all of her Sesame Street pals are there to support her throughout the transition. While there are many changes coming, there are a lot of happy moments and discoveries for Katie and her friends. Based on the needs of military families, each installation will be able to determine which show performs on their base, with some locations opting for both the new performance and “Katie is Moving To A New Base” – which was introduced by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Biden in 2011.

When one family member serves, the whole family serves. Sesame Street and the USO know this all too well, having together created a character (Katie) who models the real-life experiences of today’s military children. Designed to thank troops and their families for their service and sacrifice, the 2016 Sesame Street/USO tour emphasizes the importance of adjusting to change, facing your fears and embracing transition as they enter a new chapter of life.

The Sesame Street/USO Experience for Military Families made its debut in July 2008 and has taken its message to more than half a million troops and military families around the world.
