Sam Smith Misses His Mom and Dad
A Grammy can fill up empty space on your mantle or greet guests in your home's atrium, but it appears the revered trophy cannot replace a parent's love.
Sam Smith (perhaps you heard of him...) has been enjoying the perks of fame since the release of his debut album, In the Lonely Hour, last year. Still, awards and endorsement deals come at a cost, and, to put it bluntly, the pop act really misses his parents.
"It got to the point where my mum and dad were being put on guest-lists to see me after shows; they didn't get to spend any time with their son, and that's not normal," he told Magic Radio, according to Press Party. "It's been really tough if I'm honest. There's things that are taken away from you."
And though a recent surgery knocked the singer out of commission for a bit, Smith says he's happy the procedure afforded him time to reflect.
"It's been the best thing that's happened to me ever," he shared. "I feel like I've been gifted with time. I got to stop for a month and rest, and become normal again and to realize how insanely my life has changed. And in some areas it's changed for the worse."
"Some things are taken away from you, so it was beautiful for me to be able to kind of regain my normality a little bit," he added. "Just be with my mum and my dad and my sisters, and remember how to laugh and chat about them and not have to talk about me all the time."
Surprised to hear Smith's having a bit of a tough time in the public eye?
