According to USA Today, looks like the Salvation Army will be out earlier than usual this season.

Tis' the season to give. I know it seems early, but is it ever too early to give? Some of the Salvation Army's bell ringers have already begun collecting.

The Salvation Army estimates it could see about 50% fewer funds donated to its red kettles donations this year, but the people who need these donations are increasing.

The coronavirus pandemic has hit many nonprofit organizations hard, including the Salvation Army. The Red Kettle campaign raises millions of dollars each year, which helps provide meals, shelter and support for thousands of people in need. In 2019, the Salvation Army raised $126 million dollars through 30,000 red kettles across the country and are expecting to see about 50% fewer funds through the campaign this year.

The red kettle bell ringers hit the street early this year in an effort to accommodate for some of those loses. Some of the red kettle campaigns have already started.

Commissioner Kenneth G. Hodder, The Salvation Army’s national commander, said in a statement:

“We’re asking you to help rescue Christmas with us by providing support in any way you can, our hope is to offset these challenges to meet the increasing demand for services across our nation. Our ability to raise vital funds to serve those in need this Christmas and beyond is at risk. We need everyone who has the capacity to come alongside us and ensure that the holiday season is bright for millions.”

There are other ways to donate if you'd like to help. Other than kettles, which also take Apple Pay and Google Pay, donations can be made online, or by texting KETTLE to 91999.
