Professional basketball is coming to Central Texas, as The Waco Royals are set to kick off their season on April 9.

Yep, pro basketball arrives in Central Texas with the introduction of the Waco Royals. Thanks to Baylor University, my love for basketball has renewed as both the Baylor men's and women's teams have both been outstanding over the last couple of years.

With the NCAA Tournament set to kickoff on Friday, March 19, both teams have a chance to do something pretty special. With that excitement building for the tournament, the announcement of the new pro league should also bring in some anticipation for local fans eager for more basketball.

According to FOX44 NewsThe Waco Royals will be a part of the The Basketball League (TBL) which is a pro league that has a total of 35 teams. The league is made up of former NBA and G- League players and the Waco Royals is owned by Brandon Littles, a Waco native, “I want Waco to be that basketball Mecca,” Littles said.

Littles has dreamed of owning a team and is thrilled to have that chance in his hometown, “I wouldn’t have it any other way,” Littles said. “This is where I was raised. This is where I was born. And so, I always wanted to be able to do something like this for the city.”

The official schedule has not been released yet so ticket information is available. The season is scheduled to start on April 9 and the Waco Royals will play their home games in Hewitt at the Legends Sports Complex.

Our news partners over at KWTX recently caught up with the team, who were practicing in Hewitt earlier this week. The team consists of players with both college and pro experience, so we're sure to see some great games! Check out the report from KWTX's Hannah Hall here.
