Full closures of both north and southbound lanes of Interstate 35 through Temple were supposed to take place late last week, but were postponed. Now, TxDOT says those closures have been scheduled to begin Monday night, October 8.

TxDOT's Jodi Wheatley issued the following media release last Tuesday afternoon:

Temple – Major I-35 Closures Planned for Nights of Monday, Oct. 8 through Thursday, Oct. 11.

Southbound mainlanes on I-35 near 57th St. will be closed Monday, Oct.8 and Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 7PM – 7AM. I-35 southbound traffic will detour off I-35 at Exit #301 (Adams Ave. / Central Ave.) Travelers will be directed through the Central Ave. / Adams Ave. intersections by police officers and flaggers and reenter I-35 before S. Loop 363.

Northbound mainlanes on I-35 near 57th St will be closed Wednesday, Oct. 10 from 7PM - 7AM, and Thursday, Oct. 11 from 9PM - 7AM. I-35 northbound will detour off I-35 at Exit #300 (57th St / Ave. H /Central Ave.). Travelers will be directed through the Central Ave. / Adams Ave. intersections by police officers and flaggers and re-enter I-35 at Central Ave.

The contractor will be continuing construction on the 57th St. Bridge. Police officers and flaggers will be present to direct travelers through these areas on all four nights. Travelers are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this time, and reminded to obey all warning and detour signs.

This work will take place weather permitting.

If you don't want to deal with what are sure to be long delays getting through town, we highly recommend going around Temple entirely using Loop 363.
