Mom In Leander Sounds Alarm Over ‘Unsafe’ School Walking Route
School has just begun in the Central Texas Area. Students are heading to school to learn and grow every day. But, getting to school is the most important part of the day.
How Do Students In Central Texas Normally Get To School?
There are many ways for a student to get to school. The student could drive themselves to school, the parents could drive them to school, or they could ride the bus. But that's not at all.
Some, if they are close enough, can walk to the learning institution. However, that poises a safety risk if the route isn't the best. For one mom in Leander, her students have recently met an issue with this.

Jessica Mitchell has run into a problem in regards to transportation to Knox Wiley Middle School.
What Caused The Issue With Bus Travel To Knox Wiley Middle School For Jessica Mitchell?
According to KVUE, Mitchell was informed that due to certain factors, her kids would have to walk to school. One the reasons given was that her neighborhood, Cold Springs, is close to a construction zone. Also, traffic in the area around another neighborhood, Crystal Falls, isn't the best.
Per Mitchell, "There was a fatality here on Crystal Falls on Easter and just the amount of cars and kids." The walk to the school would total 40 minutes as well, which worries Mitchell. Mitchell has attempted to contact the principal of the school, as well as director of transportation, and there's no solution at the time of writing.
According to a statement from Leander ISD to KVUE:
"The LISD Board of Trustees approved this year’s Hazardous Routes in April, and since then, our Transportation team, together with the principal, have been in contact with impacted families, working to identify the best possible path forward, even as some challenges remain."
As this is a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
