As more and more "big box" stores continue to suffer from online competition, some independent companies and stores are starting to feel the pinch as well. Sadly for some residents in North Killeen, one of the last few independent neighborhood grocers is closing.

In a somewhat cryptic Facebook post on Monday (August 5), Killeen IGA Foodliner announced that it will be closing at the end of August.

Folks in Killeen are wondering why the store made the sudden announcement and expressed their sadness over its closing on social media. Some are even wondered if the store's closing would create a "Food Desert" for residents in North Killeen that live near the store.

We reached out to store management for a comment but could not get in contact with anyone Wednesday morning. Nevertheless, its another sign of the times as the independent "mom and pop" store loses another one.
