Kempner Bicyclist on Rural Road

Central Texas authorities have released the identity of a man killed over the weekend when a pickup truck hit his bicycle.

KWTX reports that Douglas Wheeler, 56, of Kempner was struck while riding his bicycle south along FM 2257 just three-tenths of a mile north of FM 580 around 12:15 PM Sunday afternoon.

Texas Department of Public Safety Sgt. John Roberts said Wheeler died at the scene of the collision. The driver of the pickup, Curtis Windham Sr., 68, of Lampasas was not injured.

The collision remained under investigation Monday.
