Travelers flying through Texas over the Labor Day holiday weekend face a significantly higher risk of flight disruptions compared to the rest of the nation, this according to U.S. Department of Transportation performance records. An evaluation by Rightway Parking reveals that Texas air hubs account for three of the four most delay-prone facilities in the country.

Texas Facilities Top National Delay Rankings

Dallas Love Field recorded the highest percentage of delayed departures nationwide during the multi-year Labor Day tracking period, with 20.7% of flights running behind schedule.Major airports across the Lone Star State followed closely behind:

Dallas Love Field (DAL): Ranked #1 nationwide with a 20.7% delay rate and a 1.3% cancellation rate.

Dallas/Fort Worth International (DFW): Ranked #3 nationwide with a 19.0% historical delay rate.

Houston William P. Hobby (HOU): Ranked #4 nationwide with 18.9% of departures delayed.

2025 Was Not a Good Year for DFW Airport

The trend escalated during the 2025 Labor Day weekend specifically, when Dallas/Fort Worth International posted the worst operational record among all 45 evaluated hubs. DFW logged a 25.5% delay rate across 6,883 scheduled departures, alongside a 7.16% cancellation rate, the highest single-year holiday cancellation spike in the study.

Carrier Disparities Impact Regional Travel

Fort Worth-based American Airlines, which operates its primary hub at DFW, posted a 20.1% holiday delay rate and recorded the highest cancellation rate among mainline domestic carriers at 2.0%, five times higher than Delta Air Lines' 0.4% cancellation baseline. Meanwhile, Dallas-headquartered Southwest Airlines, the dominant carrier at Dallas Love Field and Houston Hobby, recorded a 19.7% delay rate over the six-year span.

The Worst and The Best Airlines

Nationally, JetBlue Airways (23.1%) and Frontier Airlines (20.5%) logged the highest overall delay frequencies, while Hawaiian Airlines (8.3%) and Delta Air Lines (10.0%) maintained the most reliable holiday flight schedules.

Industry analysts emphasize that while holiday weather and heavy passenger volume create strain, travelers flying out of Texas can manage disruption risks by booking early morning departures,and avoiding tight connecting flights.
