Abandoned in a Box: The Heartbreaking Discovery at a Killeen Park Before the Arctic Blast
Six furry babies in Killeen are saved in the nick of time.
Six Puppies Get a Second Chance at Life
While most of us were preparing for last weekend’s winter storm, someone in Killeen was dumping six puppies in a Killen park. According to Killeen Animal Services, a Killeen Parks and Recreation employee found the puppies in a box. They were starving, cold and covered in feces.
Lifesaving Measures
After the Parks and Rec employee cleaned up the puppies, they were brought to Killeen Animal Services where they were examined, fed and given warm beds. The smallest puppy needed round the clock care, so it was placed with a foster family. The family decided they wanted the little one with them forever, and they adopted the puppy.
Five Puppies Need Forever Homes
The remaining five puppies are now with a rescue partner organization and are receiving medical care. What could have ended in tragedy became an opportunity for 6 puppies to have lives with families who truly love them.
Keep Your Furry Babies Safe This Winter
When it comes to winter weather, many of us keep our furry babies inside, but there are many animals who are considered “outside” pets and cats that are feral. Providing a safe, warm shelter does not have to be expensive or extravagant. All you really need is a rubbermaid container or any plastic container and some straw.
Dogs and Cats are Not Picky
Dogs and cats want to be out of the wind, out of the rain/sleet/snow and out of the cold. Many people use blankets for bedding, but bedding holds moisture as does hay. Straw remains dry and it provides the needed insulation for animals. I have a deck box that we converted into a cat box on my front porch. It has two heat lamps inside and a bunch of blankets. I also have 6 plastic containers and small dog houses filled with straw. All the small containers have cats in them. This in addition to a heated water bowl is all you need. Also, make sure you always have dry food out for dogs and cats. Animals need more food in the winter to stay warm.
