Why a Single “Lane Ends” Sign on Highway 35 Has Bell County Commuters Cheering
Every day, I drive from one end of Bell County to the other to get to work, and the minute I enter Temple, things get a little more stressful.

On Interstate 35, right before Exit 294, vehicles merge to form three lanes. For some reason, it’s probably the most nerve-racking part of my drive because people don’t seem to realize they have to merge with one another in that particular stretch of highway. I’ve been driving from Highway 14 to Interstate 35 on my way to work for the past six years, and, to be honest, that has always been the most nerve-racking part of my day. Every morning before I leave for work, I pray that I don’t end up in a wreck because, a lot of times, drivers simply don’t see the merge coming.
Highway 35 Can Give You Anxiety!
That’s one of the reasons I disliked driving on the highway when I was younger. Whenever I had to visit Temple, I would avoid the highway because of the merges and take the access road as much as possible. Recently, I was making my way to work, mentally preparing myself for the anxiety that comes with wondering whether another driver would notice it was time to merge. Then, I looked up and saw a sign alerting drivers that the lane was ending and it was time to merge.
A Longtime Highway 35 Frustration in Bell County Was Just Fixed Overnight
I was ECSTATIC! I don’t think people realize how much something as simple as a sign can make a difference. My drive to work is now so much smoother and easier that the only thing left to stress about is the actual workday. Just kidding! I love my job, but the signs really do make the drive a lot easier. So, if you’ve ever been nervous about driving on Interstate 35 because of that merge, fear no more! The signs are up, helping Bell County drivers know when their lane is ending and when it’s time to merge.
