Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo Announces This Year’s Plans

Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo will be just a livestock show and rodeo this year.

The Heart O’ Texas Fair and Rodeo is always one of my favorite "end of summer" events. School's back in and it gives the family something to go do together that doesn't involve math or science. This year things are going to be a bit different, though.

Organizers announced that this year's HOT Fair and Rodeo will not have the midway carnival and games that we usually enjoy.

Of course we can thank coronavirus for that.

President and CEO Wes Allison said in a press release Friday,

“We waited as long as we could, hoping the numbers would take a turn and we’d be able to continue with our planning for a full fair and rodeo, but when considering how to keep everyone as safe and healthy as possible we recognized the need to adjust what we offer our community this year,”

So we will be able to enjoy the livestock show, which will be at the Extraco Coliseum over a 19 day spread from Sept. 30 to Oct. 18. All social distancing guidelines will be in place, including a 50% capacity limit. Face coverings will also be required.

For those looking forward to the rodeo, mark your calendars for Oct. 10, 11 and 15-17. The HOT Bullfight is back this year and will be on Oct. 18 in the coliseum.

There's even more good news, as all the fair treats we have come to expect will be available for purchase including corn dogs, funnel cakes, turkey legs, chicken-on-a-stick, and cotton candy.
