Officials at the Pentagon put out a new policy that will prohibit Confederate Flag displays on military installations.

However, the policy doesn't actually contain the word ban.

The Associated Press reports officials put out a creative way to bar the flag's display without openly trying to anger President Donald Trump.  Trump has defended people's right to display the flag, saying he does not believe people who fly it are "not thinking about slavery".

Defense Secretary Mark Esper signed the new policy on Thursday night.  A list of the types of flags that can be displayed were sent out in a memo.  The Confederate flag is not on that list.

Flags which may be displayed include individual U.S.state flags, flags of U.S. territories, the District of Columbia's flag, the flags of our allies, and the POW/MIA flag.  Official military unit flags are also on the list.

Esper's memo reads,  "The flags we fly must accord with the military imperatives of good order and discipline, treating all our people with dignity and respect, and rejecting divisive symbols."

NASCAR recently banned the Confederate flag as well.  It will be interesting to see how President Trump responds to the Pentagon's new policy.
