It’s almost the time of the year in Harker Heights, Texas when the city comes out and celebrates an amazing event. Here in Central Texas, the Juneteenth event that takes place each year at Harker Heights E Center is one of those parties/events that have the city talking for weeks and truly enjoying each one of us in the community. Each year the community comes out on June 18th and we celebrate not only Father’s Day but Juneteenth.

Juneteenth is definitely a part of the community here in Central Texas and Texas history. Juneteenth is a holiday that reflects on both bondage and freedom and is a federal holiday in the United States, commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African-Americans. On June 19, 1865, proclaiming freedom for slaves happened in the city of Galveston and the holiday has forever been celebrated here.
If you’ve never been to the Juneteenth event at the E Center you truly are missing out on a meaningful event that showcases how wonderful, the city is together. The buffalo soldiers share their history on why it’s important to celebrate Juneteenth, vendors are also available, the children, enjoy entertainment, and face painting, and again the community comes together. In this day and age that we live in, it’s so important to always keep history alive, and that’s why we celebrate Juneteenth.
