Animal Shelter Euthanasia Concerns Lead To New Bell County Funding
The animal crisis in Bell County is worrying many in the area. According to KXXV, animals being euthanized in Bell County has reached high rates. At the time of writing, a combined 600 dogs and cats have been euthanized in the area. Can the county do anything about it?
When Did Animal Supporters Begin To Raise Concerns?
Per KXXV, the situation has been escalating for over two years. As said by Dorothy Sanders to the news organization:
“They need to listen to their community...The community spoke out two years ago, and here we are again asking for increased budgets and resources.”
The biggest request that dissenters of the Animal Shelter had is that it instead is turned into a no-kill facility. In addition to that, a coordinator who would assist with outreach and helping animals get adopted was put forth as a request as well.

Recently, Bell County held a budgeting meeting for the 2025-2026 year, and some may be very happy with the results.
Bell County Gives Go Ahead For Outreach Coordinator
KXXV reports that the county gave approval for the Outreach Coordinator at the Bell County Animal Shelter. The position will pay an estimated amount near $50,000, and is being viewed as a step in the right direction.
But, there's still a lot of work to be done in regards to keeping the animal population under control in the Bell County area. According to an unnamed Killeen Animal Control officer:
"Yes it will help get rescues to take these animals but it's not going to fix the problem because we have irresponsible pet owners out here."
As this a developing story, we will have more information when it becomes available.
