It’s Possible To Celebrate Easter Sunday With Beer In Texas

As Easter Sunday draws closer, one thing that has always intrigued me is whether or not you can purchase alcohol on Sunday. As it turns out, Texas has some very important alcohol laws regarding both Sunday and Easter. You CAN celebrate by purchasing alcohol but there's a couple of things you should know.

Are you allowed to purchase alcohol on Sundays in Texas?

The answer is yes....sorta. It depends on what kind of alcohol you're getting & WHERE you're getting it. According to the Texas Beverage Alcohol Commission (TBAC), they list off when it's possible to purchase and consume alcohol:

• At a bar, you're able to get alcohol between 10am to midnight. At a restaurant, you can only have it along with food from 10am to noon.
• At a convenience store/grocery store, you're able to between 10am to midnight.
• You can NOT purchase alcohol at any liquor stores on Sunday. However if it's a store that sells only wine, you CAN purchase wine as long as it has an alcoholic volume of 17% or less. It has a higher proof, you can't get it on Sundays.

Can you purchase alcohol on Sunday?

The short answer is yes, you can. Texas doesn't have any specific laws on banning alcohol sales on Easter, since it's always on a Sunday. So every Texas law that applies to Sundays, apply to Easter. However, there are 5 counties in Texas where you can't buy alcohol on ANY day (dry counties):

• Borden
• Hemphill
• Kent
• Roberts
• Throckmorton

So the bottom line is...

You CAN buy beer on Easter Sunday. Although to avoid the possibility of missing the deadline on when they STOP selling alcohol, it's probably best to get it BEFORE for festivities.
